Bean extract (Phaseolus vulgaris) contains phasolamine, which inhibits the digestive enzyme alpha amylase and inhibits its activity by 56%. This enzyme breaks down the carbohydrates in foods such as white bread and potatoes. A decrease in the rate of breakdown of starchy carbohydrates slows down the sharp increase in blood glucose and insulin levels, normalizing glucose metabolism, and reduces the biosynthesis of fatty acids from glucose contributing to a decrease in body fat.
